Statistician's report

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to thank all the HPSA players, managers and fans for making it a great 2010 regular season. I have toiled away all summer trying to keep the standings and team statistics current on a very low-tech system, and I appreciate all the patience that the league has shown as well as the concern for quality statistical services with the HPSA. I can guarantee that with the enthusiasm shown for easily accessible player and team statistics, that we will have a better system and output for 2011. Most importantly, I have tried to being a high level of customer service to the role this year, and have tried to answer to all questions, concerns and suggestions. I am always available for feedback at stats@hpsa.ca.

Final standings are now available for all divisions and playoff schedules and seedings are locked in. Best of luck playing where it counts.

I am also promising to deliver a year-end leaderboard for each division, despite a general lack thereof during the actual season. Please have your accurate* team stats in by Sunday August 22nd at 11:59 PM to be considered for the final tally.

DIVISION 2 PLAYOFF PREVIEW - By Michael Zitney

With the playoffs just days away it's time to look ahead and break down Division 2.

  • Mayhem - Jason Kastner had a season unmatched by anyone in all of the HPSA and probably Bnai Brith. He averaged a home run a game and his pitching was absolutely dominant. New addition Russell "the fire engine" Cohen is a perfect complement to Kastner, and the Mayhem feature the scariest lineup in the league. 2 losses both to Party Impressions were their only losses of the season, and some believe they could be their kryptonite.
Outlook: Nobody wants to play these guys, and after securing first place are the favorite to win it all. Could a 3 week layoff hurt this team?
Team Captain Quote: Lucas Jacobs - "We are so good…seriously… our team is REALLY good"
  • Party Impressions - they don't have one weakness. New addition Andy Mein is as intense as anyone, and his winning attitude is what put this team over the edge. They held on to first place the entire season until the final week, but now head in to the playoffs on a two-game losing streak.
Outlook: They need everyone to be firing on all cylinders. If they are, they could be the team to beat.
Team Captain Quote: Neil Grunberg - "I just checked my IPAD, and according to our online stats we have a 72.4% chance of winning the championship
  • Isotopes - Struggled with attendance and injury issues all season, but somehow managed to earn 3rd place in the division. They have yet to show much consistency, but that could be an issue of certain players not showing up. With a full team in the final 3 weeks of the season they showed how dominant they can be.
Outlook: With Les Daiter back to full health and pitching they have as good a chance as anyone. It will all depend on their bats. They have been known to go silent in the playoffs in years past.
Team Catpain Quote: Michael Zitney - "Do we need any subs tonight or do we have a full team?"
  • Sultans of Swing - the little team that could. Led by team MVP Jonah Koplowitz this team was the thorn in many teams sides. One week they beat the Party Impressions and the next week they lost to Dunder Mifflin. What is this teams real identity?
Outlook: Which team will show in the playoffs, and could the absence of Koplowitz in their quarter-final game mean the end for this team?
Team Captain Quote: Michael Heisz - "Just because our entire team was on the field doesn't mean the play can't continue"
  • Ninja Black Sox - When they all show up they can beat anyone on any given night. They are the dark horse going into the playoffs, and it would not surprise many to see this team make a run.
Team Captain Quote: Sam Posner - "Let's get Crunked"
  • Brewers - lack the bats to contend but have arguably the best D in the division. If they get their bats going they could win a game or 2.
Team Captain Quote: Brown - "I played on the Tribe last year. This year I play on the Brewers"
  • Benchers - Who is really on this team? They forefitted 3 games this season, and even when they do show up it's a mish mash of bodies trying to fill out a roster. Player introductions a playoff game is probably not a good thing. All that being said Shawn Werger can baffle teams at times, and come playoffs a good pitcher could be the difference.
Team Captain Quote: Fireman - "So you can throw a baseball? Can you play tonight at 7pm at Lamareaux?"
  • Dunder Mifflin - had a tough time fitting in to division 2 this season, and sturggled all season long. In a 1-game situation anything can happen.
Team Captain Quote: Jeff Zon - "My ankle!!!!"

Division 2 Preview

A new year brings a new sense of optimism for division 2. Division 2 (formerly division 3) is as competitive as you get in the HPSA. Everybody wants to win and win badly. The constant trash talking between the GM's has already begun over email. Gone are some key teams including The Panthers who rolled through the division last year, Daddario, and the Hustlers.
